The Spanish newspaper “AS” highlights the players practicing in the Spanish League who will be absent from their clubs during the upcoming African Cup period, which will be hosted by Côte d’Ivoire in the period between January 13 and February 11, 2024. The matter concerns 33 players from 16 Spanish clubs.
The Spanish journalist explained that only 4 clubs will escape the blow of the African Cup of Nations, namely “Real Madrid, Barcelona, Getafe and Osasuna,” after they avoided signing African players during the previous transfer market.
The same source added: “The Africa Cup is held every two years. Clubs think twice before signing African players due to their absences. Recently, when Real Madrid learned that they would lose Courtois until the end of the season, they considered the possibility of signing Bono, the Saudi Al Hilal goalkeeper who played until last season with Sevilla. The same interested party later admitted: “According to what they told me, Real Madrid thought about signing me, but backed off when they saw that I might miss too many matches in a month, which they considered very important.”
